TecnoConverting, a Spanish company specializing in water treatment, has designed a technology that can improve water treatment and purification, especially during secondary treatment. Also participating in the project was the CTM Technological Center Foundation (Fundación CTM Centro Tecnológico).
The numerical simulation technology, called TecnoTec, uses finite elements in order to assess and verify the design of lamella sedimentation systems.
It can be used for drinking water treatment systems (according to ETAP, or the EU’s Environmental Technologies Action Plan), industrial water treatment systems, pools of water, sedimentation systems, circular and secondary treatment systems, among others.
Using this method it’s possible to determine the distribution of water flows and its speed, the possible presence and location of turbulent areas and recirculation. Further, it can find where sedimentation will take place as a function of the types of flakes and particles in suspension, and predict blockage in the lamellas.
With the new technology water treatment companies can confirm if the design of their systems is adequate by using numerical simulation. This makes it possible to assess the design while at the same time finding ways to improve it, toward increasing efficiency and avoiding modifications and repairs later on.
