Expanding frontiers
GMV’s main strength lies in the international market, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of the total sales of €101 million. Half of the company’s revenues currently come from the aerospace sector, while information technology, transportation, and defense account for the rest.
Immediately after the company was founded, GMV began working internationally by participating in European space projects. In the other business lines, however, the internationalization process has been more gradual.
“We fully develop the products and services in Spain first, and then we export them abroad. This has been the key to success,” says Martínez.
In 2004, the company opened its U.S. offices to supply to the North American institutional and industrial markets. Soon after, GMV established subsidiaries or sales offices in other countries including Portugal, Poland, Germany, and Malaysia, and has plans to expand as the volume of business continues to rise. GMV currently employs more than 1,000 people around the world.
GMV’s international expansion and growth has been possible thanks to the company’s focus on innovation, which has enabled it to be a pioneer in various fields. Says Martínez, “Research and innovation is the nucleus of the company.”
