Leaders in automotive safety testing

For the last quarter century, Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas has been at the forefront in developing high-tech solutions in Spain and around the world. The company has established itself as a world leader in automotive safety testing systems, as well as positioned itself as a value-added supplier in the defense and security, energy, and industrial sectors. This is a result of the company’s commitment to research and development, to which it allocates 10% of its annual sales.

Automotive manufacturers rely on only a handful of companies in the world to create a crash test laboratory: Aries Ingeniería is one of those companies. The company’s passive safety testing systems, which evaluate the safety of the vehicle’s components, have positioned it among the best in the world. “We are a leader in this niche market,” says Roberto Fernández, general manager. “Every time a new laboratory is created to check vehicles’ passive safety elements, we participate in a bid for the project.”

The company is currently building what will be the largest safety testing laboratory in the world for the Chinese automotive company Chery, which will surpass Volvo’s laboratory in Sweden, considered the most advanced to date.

The laboratory will have the capacity to carry out car-to-car crash tests at a variety of speeds and angles, with a precision of less than 25 millimetres at the point of impact. “Aries uses modern and sophisticated propulsion technology capable of guaranteeing the highest levels of precision in impact speeds, including for two simultaneously moving vehicles,” explains Fernández.

The reputation of Aries Ingeniería’s safety testing systems has led the Spanish multinational to develop a universal launcher for Great Wall Motors, a Chinese car manufacturer that produces more than 400,000 vehicles every year. This system, which incorporates the latest technology, consists of an impact test bench capable of launching different anthropomorphic shapes against internal and external elements of the vehicle to be tested. It also includes a second launcher for testing head impacts in free flight, and an anti-recoil system to minimize the reaction of the force during propulsion, “which provides greater precision and reliability in the impact,” says Fernández.
